We Finally Get to Say Congratulations !!!

We're so happy to extend our congratulations to Martin Scorsese for his " Best Director" and
" Best Picture" win for " The Departed " at Sunday's Oscars ceremony. Mr. Scorsese and The Rolling Stones recently collaborated on a feature length documentary about the band, which will be released this fall. Portions of the film were shot during a two night stand at New York's Beacon Theater late last year. We're keeping our fingers crossed that next year we'll get to see Martin, Mick, Keith, Ron and Charlie all up on that Oscar stage. And Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese are now looking beyond the documentary realm and are joining forces to make a movie spanning three decades in the music business. Martin Scorsese will direct " The Long Play" to be produced by Mick's Jagged Films. William Monahan , who won an Oscar for writing " The Departed" will write the screenplay.

Sold Out!!! Sold Out!!! Sold Out!!!

2/27/06 – The past few days of ticket sales for The Police tour have been nothing short of spectacular, the Seattle, Denver and Phoenix shows sold out immediately as did the extra shows in Vancouver and Montreal. In fact the demand for tickets is so great that a third Toronto show has been confirmed as well as a second night in Seattle. Not content to just play arenas, the band’s instant sell outs last week at Boston’s storied Fenway Park led to three more stadium shows one; at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, one at the McAfee Coliseum in Oakland and one at the Meadowlands just across the river from NY, all three of which sold out in record time. Congratulations to all and it certainly seems true absence does make the heart grow fonder.

Wonderful Winter Night in the Windy City

Who knew that travelling in the winter could be so anxiety filled? Well, all of us to be honest. But determined to see a whole shebang, what better place to see one of Anthill's most personable clients, Josh Groban, than the packed to the rafters 15000 strong Saturday night crowd at Chicago's United Center.
A wintry storm that was followed by freezing rain seemed to deter nobody though thoughts of being stranded @ O'hare all day Sunday did cross this paranoid mind.
The show including a blistering set by songstress Angelique Kidjo to get things started was a mix of new and old with Josh's warmth and connection to his fans a true delight to view.
A stage that was brilliantly lit and a sound mix that made it feel like a private show in a living room were part of the magic.
But without one of the most acclaimed voices on the planet and the material that it highlighted, it would've been just another gig.
Couldn't help notice a great product line and a record breaking night for program sales (printed with pride in Chi town by a certain Mr S).
Funny how a great show creates the demand for Rockware!!
Josh Groban's team including mgr Brian Avnet, agent Gayle Holcomb and the tour promoter were seen backstage putting the final touches to the routing to Legs 2+3. Sound like a 100+ run and Anthill will be there.

One To Watch

Greetings. Every now and again we get the customary request to bypass dinner or a trip to the gym so we can do the showcase thing. Usually a rehearsal space or half empty club where even the assistants of assistants need bullying to show and once there start looking at their watches to figure how quickly they can go.
So with that in mind and even worse, a friend managing the band in question, I traipsed over to the Bowery Ballroom Friday night for the ever so early set at 8pm featuring The Trews.
Well not only was it not empty, but the college aged crowd was totally into them from the get go.
When you see a good old fashioned 4 piece rock band and they so exceed your expectations, you automatically wax nostalgic for old world media-radio, magazines w/ cred and videos on tv to spread the word.
In it's absence all one can do is hope for the word of mouth that makes success of too few.
This band channels Humble Pie by way of the Black Crowes and Kings of Leon. They are young. They are a polished live act and they are basically free of any baggage. And in my opinion, oustanding.
For any or all of us that still have clout, or dream of breaking a band worldwide, this is one to consider.

Is Nelly Ever Busy !

Though she has made appearances on MTV's " I'm from Rolling Stone" and
" Dance Life" Nelly Furtado (http://www.nellyfurtado.com) makes her acting debut tonight on the CBS drama " CSI: NY " the episode is entitled " Some Buried Bones" and airs tonight at 10pm et/pt.

As if adding actress to her stellar resume was not enough she can now add the title Host...Not only is Nelly hosting the 2007 Juno Awards, she is also nominated for five of the Canadian music awards; 2007 Juno Fan Choice Award Single of the Year - "Promiscuous", Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year. The Juno Awards will take place on April 1, 2007
